Courteney Cox's engagement was a family -- and Friends -- affair! In honor of the 20th anniversary of Friends on Monday, Sept. 22, the Cougar Town actress stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she opened up about fiance Johnny McDaid's marriage proposal at a birthday party for daughter Coco, a bash that was hosted by none other than BFF Jennifer Aniston.
As Cox, 50, relayed to Kimmel, the Snow Patrol rocker first asked 10-year-old Coco (Cox's daughter with ex-husband David Arquette) for permission to marry her mom. "He gave her a little diamond ring and got on his knee," the Dirt alum revealed. "And she said, 'Great! I'm going to camp tomorrow. Let's do it right now!'"
The two decided it would be best for McDaid to propose that night, at a dinner Aniston was throwing in Coco's honor. "They made a plan to count down from three, and when they got to one, he was gonna get down on his knee and say, 'Will you marry me?' and she was gonna say, 'Will you marry him?'" Cox recalled. "They planned it out, they found the perfect tree, with three branches that led to one trunk -- it was just beautiful."
The only problem was that Coco couldn't wait. She was so anxious for McDaid to pop the question that she kept yelling out "Three!" in the middle of dinner. "She kept jumping the gun!" Cox said, laughing.
The Scream actress also spoke with Kimmel about the early days of her romance with McDaid, when she went to Madison Square Garden to see his band play with Ed Sheeran. Having famously appeared in Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" video in 1984, Cox had experience with the rock 'n' roll scene -- but she worried she'd outgrown it.
"I was like, 'Oh my god, I'm so old,'" she began. "'It's gonna be so embarrassing, all these hot girls with short skirts, looking beautiful. And I'm gonna be like grandma there.'"
She needn't have worried. "You know what? Things have changed in the rock 'n' roll world," she told Kimmel. "You go backstage, and the lead singer Gary is stretching or doing some yoga, and this one's drinking green tea. They're all just, like, nice people. I was literally the one with the shortest skirt."
