Arctic Monkeys headlined Reading Festival for the second time in their career on Saturday (August 23) with a set that drew heavily from their 2013 album 'AM'.
Returning to the three-day event for the first time since 2009, the Sheffield four-piece got the show under way with recent album opener 'Do I Wanna Know' against a giant backdrop of the 'AM' album cover that has accompanied most of their shows during their recent tour.
Frontman Alex Turner, who tonight was sporting a black leather jacket, then shouted, 'Brianstorm' before launching into the 2007 single to huge cheers.
"We're the Arctic Monkeys from High Green, how you doing?" the singer declared as the band began 'Dancing Shoes', from their 2006 debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'.
Much of the show borrowed from 'AM', with the band playing nine tracks in all from their 2013 LP including 'Arabella', 'No. 1 Party Anthem', 'Knee Socks' and 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?'. Introducing the latter, Turner said: "This one goes out to anyone who's sent a message and got a reply saying, 'You're up early'."
Throughout the set, the Sheffield band threw in some of their classic hit singles, including 'When The Sun Goes Down', 'Fluorescent Adolescent', 'Teddy Picker' and 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'.
Rounding off the early part of their set, Turner told the audience: "Reading, I'm terrible at goodbyes but please sleep sound in the knowledge I want to be yours, baby." The band then played the closing track on 'AM', 'I Wanna Be Yours'.
Following a short encore, the band returned for three more songs - 'One For The Road', 'Snap Out Of It' and 'R U Mine?'. Ahead of 'Snap Out Of It', the singer hailed the audience. "You're a fucking good crowd Reading. I like you very much," he said.
