Military plane crashes into San Diego Bay

Two pilots flying a military plane have been rescued taken to the hospital after the aircraft crashed into the water near Shelter Island in San Diego, California, according to fire officials.

San Diego Fire said the crash was reported at 10:16 a.m. local time, and that the military confirmed at 10:42 a.m. that only two pilots were aboard the plane.

No fatalities were reported, and the two pilots were taken to a nearby medical center for treatment, according to the San Diego Fire. The department did not disclose the pilots' current medical conditions.

Pilots in stable condition after being underwater for a minute

The U.S. Navy told local media outlets KUSI and KGTV the plane was a Boeing EA-18G Growler. The U.S. Coast Guard said the pilots were in stable condition after they were underwater for one minute, according to KGTV.

USA TODAY reached out to the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard on Wednesday but did not immediately receive a response.
