SAN DIEGO (Reuters) – In one of Comic Con’s most awaited presentations, Marvel and DC superheroes of all kinds from Batman and Wonder Woman to Ant-Man and Wasp took over the fan convention on Saturday, as leading actors revealed surprises to films that will showcase the characters.
A lot of tweets have come out claiming that one studio or another won the battle of Hall H at San Diego Comic Con yesterday, the majority of them aligning with DC/Warner and its exciting reveals of the Superman-Batman-Wonder Woman trinity of actors and their various costumes.
Before I ask you to Vote in our Poll I am going to compare a few of the big announcements from each presentation to contextualise who I think the victors were on the day:
1. Costumes The biggest reveal obviously was the Wonder Woman armour design, with Batman's Frank Miller-inspired helmet-cowl coming next, but Marvel also physically displayed its Ant-Man helmet, the device that controls and communicates with insects, which was pretty sweet, but not all that new. I give the edge in this category to DC.
2. Characters DC didn't announce any new characters, while Marvel officially confirmed Cory Stoll and Evangeline Lilly as major characters in Ant-Man. Lilly is so sweet and hot, you can't help but be delighted that her participation is finally rubber stamped. On top of that, Marvel presented Paul Bettany who, although he has been in the MCU since 2008's Iron Man, we now know will play the Vision. They also climactically brought out Josh Brolin, who will portray Thanos in this week's Guardians of the Galaxy and onward, wearing the freaking Infinity Gauntlet! Marvel takes this category easily.
3. New Movies DC truly disappointed us by not confirming their rumoured slate of movies. So much for the possibility of Justice League, followed by a Wonder Woman solo and new Green Lantern and Aquaman. And wtf happened to Guillermo del Toro's Justice League Dark project? Meanwhile, all Marvel had for us was a release date for James Gunn's GOTG2.... which is pretty underwhelming in lieu of the rumoured Doctor Strange announcement. We know it's being made with Scott Derrickson at the directorial helm, but we were expecting to find out its star at SDCC. It would be pretty ironic if the GOTG2 announcement turned out premature and the movie flopped, but it won't. This category is a disappointing draw.
4. Preview Footage DC started with a pretty spectacular clip of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with a sustained look at the new Batman costume and Dark Knight Returns cowl. Really though, it doesn't stand up to repeat views since all it is si them staring at each other with glowing eyes. What's the deal with glowing eyes anyway? I guess it's an intimidation thing, because it wouldn't offer much in the way of stealth. Marvel presented two clips, one of Ant-Man which didn't add too much, and it was pretty comical hearing a chorus of boos as director Peyton Reed was introduced. Avengers: Age of Ultron footage was quite spectacular, showing glimpses of Ultron himself, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, the Hulk fighting against Hulkbuster Iron Man, and a post-apocalyptic shot of the Avengers after losing a fight with Ultron. I'm going to call this category a draw just because I haven't had enough time with the footage to decide.

5. Star Power DC has Affleck, who despite his success as screenwriter and director, would never receive plaudits for acting. If you break it down character by equivalent character you have: Affleck (Batman) < Downey (Iron Man) Cavill (Kal El) < Evans (Captain America) Gal Gadot (Diana) < Johansson (Black Widow) Momoa (Aquaman) < Hemsworth (Thor) Amy Adams (Lois) = Ruffalo (Banner) Fishburne (Perry White) < Jackson (Fury) Ray Fisher (Cyborg) < Renner (Hawkeye) Eisenberg (Luthor) < Spader (Ultron) Irons (Alfred) < Bettany (Vision) And then add Thanos, Scarlet Witch and the whole cast of Ant-Man to the equation, it's not even a close race. How can this be a Warner Bros production? Disney has them beat handedly with an Infinity Gauntlet as well. Like on Facebook Follow on Twitter Add on Google+
