Angelina Jolie has been presented with an honorary damehood by the Queen for her humanitarian efforts.
The actress was given the accolade in front of a private audience at Buckingham Palace today.
She was named in the Diplomatic Service and Overseas list in June for her services to the UK foreign policy and the campaign to end war-zone sexual violence.
Earlier this year, she co-hosted the End Sexual Violence in Conflict global summit in London with Foreign Secretary William Hague.
“To receive an honour related to foreign policy means a great deal to me as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to,” said Jolie.
“Working on the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative and with survivors of rape is an honour in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime and I am dedicated to it for all of mine.”
Jolie is currently directing husband Brad Pitt in her own self-penned movie, By The Sea.
Others to have been named on the list include Dame Maggie Smith who is made a Companion of Honour for acting; entertainer John Barrowman (MBE); skeleton gold medallist Lizzy Yarnold (MBE); Wales rugby head coach Warrren Gatland (OBE); England women’s cricket captain Charlotte Edwards (CBE), golfer Lauer Davies (appointed Dame); and fashion designer Zandra Rhodes (appointed Dame).
