The actress opined that the movie star was targeted because of his vocal stance against drugs. ‘I’ve never seen someone get torn down so hard,’ Lewis said.
Juliette Lewis has an interesting theory about fellow Scientologist Tom Cruise.
In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, the actress opined that the movie star was targeted because of his vocal stance against drugs.
When asked about what she believes are the biggest misconceptions about her religion, Lewis said, “I’ll get all conspiratorial on you.”
“I’m just going to throw this out: The mainstream media is funded by pharmaceutical companies, so when you have the biggest movie star in the world at the time — Tom Cruise — coming out against anti-depressants and Ritalin and just saying, 'Hey, why don’t you put a warning label on there?'”
She seems to be referring to the actor's infamous 2005 interview on “Today,” when he and Matt Lauer had a heated discussion about psychiatry, which included the actor criticizing Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants for her postpartum depression. Three years later, the star spoke to Lauer again and apologized for the interview, including for calling the news anchor “glib.”
Lewis, 41, said she had never seen “someone get torn down so hard” as what happened to Cruise after his outspoken interviews and added that “they still brutalize him with Scientology pieces to this day.”
“The thing about Scientology is it is anti-drug in that you’re seeking relationship or communication tools — simple basics on how to live better,” she said.
“It’s a religious philosophy and self-help movement. And you’ll never see a truthful word written about it in mainstream media.”
