SAN MATEO, Calif., Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Neil Young has filed for divorce from his wife Pegi after 36 years of marriage.
Rolling Stone reports the 68-year-old singer filed petition for dissolution of marriage in the pair's hometown of San Mateo, Calif., on July 29. A hearing for the case has been scheduled for December 12.
In addition to their marriage, Young and Pegi have been longtime music collaborators, with her being the subject of several of his songs -- including "Such a Woman," "Unknown Legend" and "Once an Angel" -- and joining him on tour as a background singer on several occasions.
Young has also toured with his wife during the promotion of her three solo albums, and occasionally played guitar during her shows. The pair last performed together at the Bridge School Benefit in October of 2013.
The couple have two children together, Ben and Amber Jean. The Youngs helped found The Bridge School for children with learning disabilities because of the few learning options for children like Ben, and Neil's son from a different marriage, Zake, who were born with cerebral palsy.
Young is scheduled to play several solo dates in the United States in October. He and Pegi were slated to play the Farm Aid concert in Raleigh, North Carolina, on September 13th, although Pegi's name was recently taken off the lineup.
