Mariah Carey had a bad night in Tokyo kicking off The Elusive Chanteuse tour over the weekend, and fans on social media aren’t letting her forget it.
Videos of her performance on YouTube and on Twitter show her sounding unsteady on several songs, including Hero and Vision of Love, and failing to hit high notes she has always hit before.
“Mariah Carey Vocal Malfunction,” read the headlines. “It’s a wrap for Mariah Carey’s singing career,” many re-tweeted.

Those who weren’t complaining about her voice were buzzing about whether she accused her ex, Nick Cannon, of cheating by changing the lyrics to a Billie Holiday classic, Don’t Explain.
But even someone with a five-octave vocal range can experience a vocal fail once in a while. Maybe consigning her to the dustbin of singing history is premature.
Besides, jet lag can be a beast to any chanteuse.
