Sofia Vergara sizzles in Shape, reveals her workout motto: 'No pain, no cake!'

The 'Modern Family' star confesses in the magazine's November issue that working out isn't her favorite thing to do. But after turning 40, 'I knew it was time to do something.'

Sofia Vergara would likely be recruited into just about anyone's modern family.

The 42-year-old actress is not only the highest paid on television with the hit ABC series she stars in, but she's also quite the looker.

Still, it's not a magic fairy who waves a wand of beautiful, curvaceous excellence over Vergara that keeps her fit physique in shape. Instead it's her "Modern Family" co-star Julie Bowen.

"Being around Julie and seeing how motivated she is … I started to think more about it," Vergara said in the November issue of Shape magazine about exercise. Bowen is a religious runner, even on days when they're called to set super early.

"I'll say, 'Sunday? No, it's the Lord's day; I can't work out,'" the brunette beauty said about her lackadaisical approach to fitness.

In fact, it's her food addiction on which she's more focused to tackle.

"I heard about someone in L.A. who got hypnotized so they wouldn't eat candy," she said. Adding about her unyielding passion for cake, she said, "I'm seriously looking into that because I'm obsessed."

A serious obsession that has proven to show real results is Vergara's Megaformer, a Pilates-like machine that isn't so demanding on her "bad knees."

"I hit 40 and I started seeing a softness everywhere on my body," she said about kicking her butt in gear to work out regularly. "I knew it was time to do something, so I did."

Together with her trainer, Jennifer Yates, the mother of one whips her body into shape, like it or not.

"With this machine, I was able to figure out what worked for me," she said in the issue that hits newsstands Thursday. "I don't love it all, but I love how my body's changing."

Aside from all things cake, Vergara has had a change of heart when it comes to what she eats, and thanks sunny Los Angeles, a city she's lived in for nearly 10 years.

"If you live here, you can't always order the high-fat dishes like pasta with truffles," she said. "You have a little sushi, and when you're out with your girlfriends you order a nice salad."

t's anyone's guess what she might order when out with her equally sexy man, Joe Manganiello.

While she didn't divulge details about that, the star did confess to indulging a bit in what she loves the most.

"When I do indulge, I exercise a bit harder the next day," she admitted. "My workout motto is really simple: no pain, no cake!"
