Elizabeth Banks, Donald Glover, and Michael Strahan complete 'Magic Mike XXL' cast

After weeks of unofficial announcements and rumors, Warner Brothers has officially released the cast and first synopsis for Magic Mike XXL. Channing Tatum once again stars as the title-role stripper in the sequel, which he wrote and is producing alongside Reid Carolin. New to the cast is Elizabeth Banks, Donald Glover, and Michael Strahan, who confirmed his casting on Monday’s Live! with Kelly and Michael after joking with Tatum multiple times that he was interested in a part in the movie when the actor was a guest on the morning talk show. The trio join the previously announced group of returning and new stars including Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez, Gabriel Iglesias, Amber Heard, Andie MacDowell, and Jada Pinkett Smith.

In addition to the casting, Warner Brothers has also released the first piece of plot for fans to get excited about:

Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, the film finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blowout performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.

Gregory Jacobs, who served as the first assistant to Steven Soderbergh on the original film, is taking over directing duties and has already begun production. Soderbergh is still working on the film as cinematographer, editor and producer. Magic Mike XXL is expected to hit theaters July 1, 2015.
