Chicago Fire actress Molly Glynn dies after being struck by tree

Actress succumbed to injuries following freak accident on Friday, leaving behind her grieving husband

Chicago Fire actress Molly Glynn has died after being struck by a falling tree.

Tragedy struck while the 46-year-old star was riding a bike with her husband Joe Foust in Chicago’s Erickson Woods on Friday. Molly succumbed to her injuries a day later on Saturday, according to CBS News Chicago.

Her grieving spouse broke down on Facebook, writing: "I couldn't save her. I couldn't save her. She's gone.”

Earlier, Joe broke the news of his wife’s hospitalisation by declaring it “the darkest day of my life”.

“Molly got hit by a falling tree while we were biking. At hospital now. Prognosis is grim,” he shared.

Molly had a recurring role in the popular US firefighting drama and has also appeared on Boss starring Kelsey Grammer and Early Edition.

But it was the Chicago theatre scene where the star found most of her success, starring in 17 productions in the last decade.

Writers Theatre artistic director Michael Halberstam said in a statement: “She was a loving mother and wife and everyone who met her fell in love with her.

“It is an incalculable loss to the Chicago theatre community, particularly as she was in the process of emerging as one of the city’s major players. She possessed a rare combination of talent, heart and beauty in all aspects of her life.”

An online charitable campaign to help fund Molly’s funeral and other costs has already raised over $120,000.
