The Metro Nashville Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will activate the Emergency Operations Center at 3 p.m. today in anticipation of severe weather.
With the severe storms expected to affect the evening commute and potentially leave damage in their wake, the EOC will "pull together key assets" in case response is needed.
The activation will bring together law enforcement, fire, public works, communications, and energy departments.
Although Nashville is currently under a "slight risk" of severe storms (a downgrade from previous "enhanced" risk), damaging winds and hail are still possible. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out either.
Some areas in Northwest Tennessee and Southern Kentucky remain under an "enhanced" risk of severe storms.
