Iggy Azalea leads the charge at this year's 42nd Annual American Music Awards as the Australian rapper chalked up with six nominations, including nods in the Artist of the Year and Single of the Year categories. Pharrell Williams, John Legend and Super Bowl halftime performer Katy Perry each scored five nominations as the AMAs revealed this year's hopefuls on Good Morning America. It was also announced that Charli XCX would perform at the American Music Awards, set to air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 23rd.
While most categories have three to five nominees facing off, the Artist of the Year award features 10: Azalea, Beyoncé, Luke Bryan, Eminem, Imagine Dragons, Legend, Lorde, One Direction, Perry and Pharrell will all face off for the coveted trophy. Azalea's "Fancy" with Charli XCX will also challenge Legend's "All of Me," Williams' "Happy," Perry's "Dark Horse" with Juicy J and MAGIC!'s "Rude" for Single of the Year honors.
The award show streak continues for Azalea as she also dominated the MTV Video Music Awards with eight nominations, tying Beyoncé. The New Classic rapper also grabbed nods in the New Artist of the Year category, Favorite Hip-Hop Album and Favorite Hip-Hop Artist categories. In the latter two, Azalea will be up against Drake and Eminem.
While the AMA nominations are based on album and single sales, radio play, streaming and other music industry measurements, the winners are decided by fan vote. Starting October 13th, fans can start polling for their favorites over at AMA.VoteNow.tv. Fans can also make their picks by using the hashtag #AMAs on Twitter.
