Katie Holmes is working a new gig -- film director.
The Dawson's Creek star and former Mrs. Tom Cruise will make her directorial debut and star in the mother-daughter tale All We Had.
Holmes had optioned the first novel by artist Annie Weatherwax in July. The book is described as "a gritty portrait of mother and daughter, living on the edge of poverty, who find an unlikely home amid the quirky residents of small town America."
Holmes said in a statement Thursday that she was "honored" and "excited" to take on the project, adding that she looks "so forward to bringing Annie's incredible characters to the screen."
Jane Rosenthal will produce the project and Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) will write the script.
