Fifty Shades Of Grey Trailer Breaks New Record: Jamie Dornan Shirtless Plus Beyonce Equals 100 Million Views

Fifty Shades fever has struck again. After E.L. James' steamy novels notched up 100 million sales, the first trailer for the movie adaptation has achieved the same feat - becoming the most-watched film trailer ever.

The first teaser for the Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson movie was released a week ago, earlier this week it was revealed the two minutes, 24 second teaser had already become the most-watched film preview of the year.

The trailer has now surpassed that record, as Universal, the studio behind the production, announce the clip is the most-watched trailer EVER.

Universal claim the teaser has notched up more than 100 million views but as Deadline point out it's not exactly clear where all those views have come from. According to the official YouTube page, the trailer has around 32.3 million viewers.

The big source of traffic appears to have come via social media though with approximately 40 million views from Facebook pages. Beyoncé also helped those social numbers to climb when she unexpectedly released a teaser for the teaser (yes, this is a thing now) a few days before the official release.

Universal's ploy to get Beyonce, who has recorded a new version of Crazy in Love for the trailer, to share the teaser with her 14 million plus Instagram followers whipped up the frenzy ahead of the official unveiling from Jamie and Dakota via the Today Show in the US.

In addition to that social traffic, Deadline report that around 13 million views came from sites like Apple, IMDb and Yahoo, while unofficial YouTube uploads from fans brought in around another million hits.

Fifty Shades has certainly set the bar for a new breed of movie promo. Nabbing a star performer from music and use of social media has enabled the trailer views to soar well above other high profile teasers for upcoming features. Fifty Shades fever even managed to overshadow the big Comic-Con teaser reveals, with the new The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 trailer currently sitting at around 11 million views on its official YouTube channel.

The new Jennifer Lawrence movie has upped its game in the past couple of days though, announcing that teen chart-star Lorde will be curating the soundtrack for the November movie. Lorde may be hot right now, but she hardly trumps Beyonce...keep trying Mockingjay.
